In this new episode of Strings Attached, John and Ryan take a trip to Carter Vintage Guitars in Nashville, TN. In the hopes of Carter Vintage becoming a dealer of Bluesman Vintage Guitars, John brings a nice selection of guitars and basses to show to the owners, Christie and Walter Carter.
The Bluesman Vintage Guitar is unique in many ways. The first thing you notice when you pick up a Bluesman Vintage is its lightweight. This is done by using a very special technique specific to Bluesman Vintage Guitars. Watch the episode to see how exactly Bluesman Vintage is able to get a really lightweight electric guitar body.
The second thing anyone notices about a Bluesman Vintage Guitar is how nice the neck feels. The neck is hand shaved to make it feel like it has been played for 40 years, giving it a true vintage feel.
While John is out, he leaves the shop in the hands of Mark. As a result, Mark and Big Mike Griffin have fun in the back of the shop playing a whole array of Marshall Amplifiers.
Three Naked Blondes and Peter Cottontail
Chris Scruggs has the shop restore three vintage blonde Fenders and a lake placid blue precision bass while the guys around the shop go on the annual Easter Egg Hunt set up by Big Mike.
In the latest episode of Strings Attached, Chris Scruggs brings in three vintage blonde fender guitars and a lake placid blue precision bass. Chris had found these guitars after they were all pretty beat up and had either been painted in different ways or had the paint stripped off. Chris brought the guitars in to the shop so that the guys could strip all of the paint off of the guitars so that they could paint and refinish them to they way they were when they were initially made. After they are painted, the guys relic the guitars so that they look old and natural.
The 1964 lake placid blue precision bass was actually a very rare piece because that color would have to be custom ordered as it was not in Fender’s catalog. As you watch the episode, you’ll see that it is a really beautiful metallic color. The other Fender Guitars were all blondes. A blond is a really nice color that is sort of a translucent white with a yellow tint. As you’re watching the episode, take a look to see all of Chris Scruggs blondes next to each other.
While the shop is busy restoring these guitars to the way they should look, Big Mike puts on his annual Easter Egg Hunt. Every year, Big Mike buys creme eggs to hide around the shop for Emma, John’s daughter, and the rest of the guys to find.
WinterJam, Billy the Biker, and The Guitar Guru
"Billy the Biker" and The "Guitar Guru" try to convince John they are worthy of representing the shop at this year's Winter Jam Tour Spectacular.
In this episode, John prepares a bass for Mark Clay, the bassist of the band New Song. Every year, New Song puts on a concert called Winter Jam. Winter Jam is the largest concert of the first quarter every year. It sells out huge stadiums like the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN. Even though it sells out, over 6,000 people still wait in line outside the arena just hoping that they can get in!
Because it is such a huge tour, Big Mike and Mark Taylor want to go so badly. They’ve been told by John that they will be able to go, but lately John has been acting a little funny. Big Mike and Mark plot a way to finally get John to tell the truth as to whether or not they’ll be able to go this year.
Premiere Episode:
John talks to the guys about cleaning up the shop. Meanwhile, Mark Slaughter comes in to get his guitar set up.
John holds a shop meeting to discuss the state of the shop. A bigger guitar shop means a bigger mess to be made especially when there are more employees and interns running around. With an increasing amount of clients and celebrities coming into the shop, John urges the crew that they need to start taking care of their workbenches and the shop as a whole. Dave steps up to take care of the mess if John will just stay out of his way.
Meanwhile, Mark Slaughter comes in to get his guitar taken care of. The guitar he brings in is truly one of a kind. Watch the episode to see how Mark designed his guitar and hear him play too!
