Meet The Shop

Meet the Shop:

Here at Bluesman Vintage I work with my family and some of my best friends. If it has strings, we work on it. If it don’t have strings, we’ll put ‘em on it! We build, sell, repair and restore some of finest instruments on the planet for some of the greatest musicians. This is us and this is what we do. Welcome to our home.

-John Scott

John Scott is one of my favorite partners in crime in the guitar world.  I met John years ago in a Craigslist Ad. I was getting rid of some old guitar parts, and I got a call from an earnest young man that was building guitars. I drove over to his place sold him a guitar neck and some bridge plates. He put the guitar together and it turned out pretty good.

Couple years latter, I was in Dallas at a guitar show and I walked up on John again and he had some guitars that he had built. They were crude, and they were a little rough, but I could tell his heart was in it. He was pretty passionate about it.

Over the years when I had vintage guitars at my disposal, I let John examine them - get to know them. He stuck it out and he learned his craft. He trains his men right. His heart is in the right place.

After three years I let him build me a guitar, and I was blown away. Ever since then, John’s refined his craft. He’s better and better every day. Dollar for dollar I believe he builds the best guitar in its category

-Mark Taylor

We’re a pretty knowledgable crew here at Bluesman Vintage, but occasionally we need to call in an expert. When that time comes, I default to Mark Taylor. Nobody knows vintage guitars like he does. When the rest of us were sneaking around chasing girls in high school, he was sneaking around guitar catalogs. He is the end all, be all guru of vintage guitars.

Dave is our jack of all trades. He’s a former pipe fitter, oil rig worker, upholsterer, electrician, school bus driver, SWAT team member and military vet.

Come to think of it, I don’t think Dave could ever keep a job! But we’ve got him here now and we’re going to keep him around because we love him. Dave is an all around great guy. He does everything we do in the shop, and sometimes even things we don’t need.

One of our guitar shop guys is Big Mike Griffin. He’s six foot ten inches, 380 pounds of gun toting, right wing, republican biker.

We have a saying around the shop - “Everyone’s entitled to Big Mike’s Opinion.” Once you meet him, you’ll find out what I’m talking about.

At Bluesman Vintage, I work with a lot of my family. One of those people is my brother, Matt. I’m half stupid, but Matt is definitely the other half.

When he’s not building guitars, he’s a special effects make up designer. He’s also a semi-professional wrestler.

There’s no shortage of hijinks whenever Matt’s around

Charley is our resident hipster. He’s also our barista and the purveyor of rock gut bourbon

He may be the village idiot, but it’s our village and he’s our village. So we’re gonna keep him.

My wife, and the love of my life, is Heidi.

She is the glue that holds this ship together. She takes care of the finances and all of the day to day operations.

I don’t know what we would do without her other than just spin out of control.
